We’re so excited to introduce Junko Yamamoto for April’s artwalk. Junko is a Tokyo-born, Seattle-based artist who creates light, lovely oil paintings exploring the “voids and fullness of pictorial spaces.” She describes her paintings as being based on “shunyata”, meaning emptiness in Sanskrit.

West Seattle’s Art Walk is this Thursday night, from 6-9. Come out and enjoy the lingering twilight, snacks and refreshments, and a fantastic collection of local art.

Puppets! “Cate + Levi” started when Josh Title, the founder, became a father and wanted to provide environmentally friendly toys for his son. Not finding what he wanted in stores, he decided to make his own. The end result of this father’s quest for sustainable toys are these awesome puppets, hand-stitched in Toronto, Canada, from reclaimed sweaters.
Each puppet is uniquely one-of-a-kind, since they are all handmade from found materials. Click here for a video of how they’re made!
The puppets come in a range of animals – from dogs & cats to walruses & slugs – and each one is $30.
We also have the perfect card from Seltzer that dovetails nicely with our new puppets! If you’ve ever been confused on the rules of peek-a-boo, here are the details:
Seltzer cards $3.50

It’s getting close to spring — the birds are coming back, the daylight is lasting longer, and we’ve actually seen the sun lately. In keeping with such cheery news, we’re happy to share that we have new Poppi rings in the store! Come visit — these jewels move quickly!

We’re also hoping to persuade the lovely Dawn Benedetto, the woman behind Poppi, back to the West Coast for a springtime trunk show in May — just in time for Mother’s Day. Cross your Poppi-bejeweled fingers and stay tuned!

The Monster Factory is the best kind of factory — they make cute & funny monsters that you can cuddle with. Each monster comes with a tiny story describing their odd personalities, which makes them even more loveable. Here are a few of our favorites:
a monster named Doyle — “When giving Doyle directions it’s probably best to draw a map, no matter how short the trip.”
a monster named Todd — “Todd puts undue pressure on himself to succeed. It makes him walk too fast.”

A monster named Colin — “Colin divides his time between playing video games and fretting about his future.”
large monsters — 8″ tall, $23
small monsters — 6″ tall, $15

Well, today is as good a day as any to talk about umbrellas. Tray 6 makes great compact umbrellas in bright colors and modern designs. These mighty umbrellas are small enough to slip into a purse or bag, and sturdy enough to combat the Pacific Northwest spring.

All umbrellas are $28. Stay dry out there!

After a whirlwind couple of weeks moving and creating an amazing new space, we are now open in the West Seattle Junction (“downtown west seattle“). Our soft opening was October 1st, six years to the day since we opened in West Seattle’s Admiral District.

Located at 4540 California Ave. SW, we are 1.5 miles south of our original location. The new space is larger and brighter, and more fitting for Design That Fits.

We’ve posted images of progress on our facebook page, where we’ll soon be announcing our grand opening party (to be held Saturday, October 16th, 6–9pm, with tunes by dj Cotton Candy, snacks by Herban Feast, and cupcakes by Sugar Rush Baking Co.). You may want to sign up for our email list so you’ll be sure to get an invite.

Porter’s favorite new product is the fatboy beanbag chair in the merrimeko design. It’s our new favorite too, because it looks like a nice place to take a little nap.

You know what we love? We love that five years ago we had this crazy idea to lease a storefront and fill it with things we love, and that five years later people are still coming in the door telling us how much they love it too! So what we’re thinking is… let’s have a party!

Friday, October 2nd, 6 — 9 pm We’ll pop a few bottles with bubbles and have a tower of treats from Splendid Cupcake. Share your Click! stories with friends and neighbors and do a little shopping: we are giving away a free Roost botanical glass with every purchase (while supplies last, starting at 6pm) and putting all Smersh Design jewelry on sale: 25% off!! which will last all weekend — through Sunday.
More than anything, we want to thank YOU, our awesome Click! peeps, for getting what it is that we do and loving it. We love you too, and we are thrilled to be doing what we do.
Don’t miss the West Seattle Blog exclusive interview with John and Frances, complete with amusing anecdotes about 10/1/04…

With our new Click! Design That Fits Blog, Frances and I hope to introduce our latest findings to the world more quickly than previously possible. So many of the fabulous designs we select for Click! are limited edition or one of a kind, or we simply don’t buy in the quantity that would justify placing them on our e-commerce site, yet we want our customers and friends to be able to preview them from the comfort of their couch.
As such, we intend to use this space to give a quick “what’s up” regarding our latest finds, as well as miscellaneous musings on the world of design, jewelry, or perhaps our cats (come on, this is a blog; what did you expect?). Expect our posts to include not only our store product updates and notes on upcoming events, but also thoughts on trends we are seeing at trade shows and elsewhere.
We expect this blog to more or less replace the “info” page on our website, which from here on out will primarily be about our hours and location. It is also intended to compliment the product pages of our site by showing the items we have in the store but are not ready for e-commerce. For our customers outside of the Seattle area, feel free to inquire about products listed here; just because you can’t click to buy doesn’t mean we can’t ship them to you. Send us an email, give us a call… we are pretty easy to work with.
More than anything, thank you to everyone who has supported us thus far. Frances started making jewelry about 16 years ago, we’ve worked together full time for about 8 years, and we opened Click! as brick and mortar just over 3 years ago. We’ve enjoyed the support of family, friends, and fans along the way… we love you and thank you for your support and kind advice. Starting a blog may not be exactly revolutionary anymore, but it does set a milestone of sorts for us. Mark this: Click! blog milepost zero, and look for more to come.
