Taste good and do good.

The “taste good” part is a visit by Rebecca Staffel, proprietess of Deluxe Foods. Wow! She recently visited Click! on her way to help with the grape harvest for an upcoming jelly she was creating. A few tastes later, we were convinced, and Click! now carries a selection of her beautiful jars of taste sensational fruit concoctions that you can sample Thursday night. Rebecca has also promised to to bring a small collection of brand new cocktail syrups – pour into a glass of sparkling wine or water and you’ve got instant “festive beverage” and who doesn’t need that right about now?

The “do good” part of the evening involves a visit from Arts Corps. Click! will donate 10% of all sales during Art Walk to this fabulous local non-profit organization that brings art education and opportunity to youth who might otherwise not have access. Arts Corps will have volunteers on hand to tell us about their programs, give out information and accept donations. Several other West Seattle businesses will have a charitable component to their evening; please see the Art Walk blog and Facebook page for more details.

Our featured artist is Rachel Austin. See a preview of her beautiful map-inspired paintings by clicking the image below.

April Art Walk artist: Junko Yamamoto

We’re so excited to introduce Junko Yamamoto for April’s artwalk.  Junko is a Tokyo-born, Seattle-based artist who creates light, lovely oil paintings exploring the “voids and fullness of pictorial spaces.”  She describes her paintings as being based on “shunyata”, meaning emptiness in Sanskrit.

West Seattle’s Art Walk is this Thursday night, from 6-9.  Come out and enjoy the lingering twilight, snacks and refreshments, and a fantastic collection of local art.

Puppets by Cate + Levi

Puppets!  “Cate + Levi” started when Josh Title, the founder, became a father and wanted to provide environmentally friendly toys for his son.  Not finding what he wanted in stores, he decided to make his own.   The end result of this father’s quest for sustainable toys are these awesome puppets, hand-stitched in Toronto, Canada, from reclaimed sweaters.

Each puppet is uniquely one-of-a-kind, since they are all handmade from found materials.   Click here for a video of how they’re made!

The puppets come in a range of animals – from dogs & cats to walruses & slugs – and each one is $30.

We also have the perfect card from Seltzer that dovetails nicely with our new puppets!  If you’ve ever been confused on the rules of peek-a-boo, here are the details:

Seltzer cards $3.50

New Poppi!

It’s getting close to spring — the birds are coming back, the daylight is lasting longer, and we’ve actually seen the sun lately.  In keeping with such cheery news, we’re happy to share that we have new Poppi rings in the store!   Come visit — these jewels move quickly!

We’re also hoping to persuade the lovely Dawn Benedetto, the woman behind Poppi, back to the West Coast for a springtime trunk show in May — just in time for Mother’s Day.  Cross your Poppi-bejeweled fingers and stay tuned!

the Monster Factory

The Monster Factory is the best kind of factory  — they make cute & funny monsters that you can cuddle with.  Each monster comes with a tiny story describing their odd personalities, which makes them even more loveable.  Here are a few of our favorites:

a monster named Doyle — “When giving Doyle directions it’s probably best to draw a map, no matter how short the trip.”

a monster named Todd — “Todd puts undue pressure on himself to succeed. It makes him walk too fast.”

A monster named Colin — “Colin divides his time between playing video games and fretting about his future.”

large monsters — 8″ tall, $23

small monsters — 6″ tall, $15

Tray 6 umbrellas

Well, today is as good a day as any to talk about umbrellas.   Tray 6 makes great compact umbrellas in bright colors and modern designs.  These mighty umbrellas are small enough to slip into a purse or bag, and sturdy enough to combat the Pacific Northwest spring.

All umbrellas are $28.  Stay dry out there!

Beware the Ides of March!

Especially if you love our Fatboys, and have been thinking of purchasing one of these not-just-for-kids-anymore beanbag chairs for your home.

Fatboy is decreeing a slight price increase, which takes place on March 15th.  New prices are as follows:

Originals — $239 $229

Juniors — $159 $149

Marimekko Originals — $329 $298

We’ll be honoring the 2010 prices through March 15th, so get your order in by next Tuesday if you want to save some cash!

Valentines for your Valentine

We just stocked Click! with an awesome selection of Valentine’s Day cards, and whatever your attitude — smart, sweet, sassy, sultry — we probably have a Valentine to match.

All our cards are $4 or under, and we can probably take care of any other Valentine’s Day gift needs as well.  BeltsJewelryOther general awesomeness?

Water Taxi starts today

Today the King County Water Taxi begins its 2009 season, shuttling people between West Seattle and Downtown by boat. We are a sponsor again this year, and have a beautiful ad on board, designed by the fabulous Megan Bailey. The West Seattle Blog has coverage of opening day.

Artwalk tonight!

Yes it’s true. We always have the best snacks and beverages on the West Seattle Art Walk (Thursday March 13, 6–9pm), but you have to when you’re a little off the beaten path. Of course it doesn’t hurt that we’ve got some kick ass art to show as well.

Our current featured artist Brad Strain has brought us some new work that takes some of his themes of home (and a longing for home) and incorporates them with polaroid images of local urban landscapes. He also brought more paintings, which seem to be gaining quite a following.

The Next Day

Our own “in-house” artist is featured this month as well: Frances is introducing new colors to her cork jewelry line. Fans of Frances’s jewelry will love the way the silver and gold light up with “ocean” and “sage” — two new colors of dyed cork, as announced in our recent email newsletter. (Sign up here)

Map of West Seattle

The folks at Town Graphics have just put out The Discovery Map of West Seattle, a 3D “bird’s eye view” map showing local businesses and points of interest. We have them free of charge at Click!, and I imagine many of the other featured businesses do as well.

West Seattle Map

When you’ve got friends or family in from out of town and don’t know what to tell them to do while you’re at work, hand them one of these and turn them loose!
